PILATES TEACHER: GIORDANA PATUMI

Reut.jpg

My name is Giordana Patumi, and I’m originally from Italy. Over the years I’ve lived, studied, and worked in several countries, and movement has always been the thread connecting each chapter of my life. I eventually moved to Switzerland to be with my partner, and it is here in Zürich that my Pilates journey found its true, grounded home.

Pilates entered my life long before I imagined teaching it. I began as a professional dancer, using Pilates as cross-training to support my body through intensive rehearsals and performances. What started as a physical complement soon became something deeper—a steady, intelligent practice that helped me understand my body in ways dance alone never could. As I continued training, practicing, and living abroad, Pilates travelled with me. Friends and colleagues began asking me to teach them, and slowly, without planning it, teaching became a natural extension of my own practice.

When I moved to Switzerland, I felt a clear shift: this was the moment to build Pilates into my profession. I committed to comprehensive education, studying with international schools and mentors, and deepening my knowledge across equipment, rehabilitation, dance-specific training, and pre/postnatal work. Today, I am completing my MA in Dance Studies while teaching Privates, Duets, and small-group Pilates classes across mat and studio equipment.

What motivates me the most is witnessing those small but powerful aha moments — the spark in someone’s eyes when a movement suddenly makes sense, when strength feels accessible, or when they discover a new relationship with their own body. I am endlessly fascinated by how the body functions, adapts, compensates, and heals.

Pilates, for me, is not about chasing shapes or aesthetics. It is an invitation to move from the inside out—to find clarity, control, and enjoyment in how we inhabit our physical selves.

My teaching approach is rooted in curiosity, precision, and compassion. I believe movement should be a conversation with the body, not a performance for the outside world. In a society that often pressures us to move only to look a certain way, Pilates offers something different: a way to reconnect, to strengthen from within, and to honour the body’s intelligence.
