What is Pilates?

If you want to keep fit in stressful everyday life, you can rely on numerous training methods and offerings. But not every option is suitable for every purpose and every lifestyle. When looking for the right training, some people ask themselves the question: “What is Pilates?” “.

What exactly is Pilates?

Pilates is a holistic training concept and has been very popular for decades. It trains the body and mind and can also be perfectly integrated into everyday life. Building on the stability of the core, you train strength, coordination and concentration with various exercises. The training units can be carried out individually or in groups; exercises are done on the mat or with Pilates equipment and are suitable for men and women.

The focus of Pilates mat training and training with equipment is on strengthening the core of the body - the deep abdominal muscles, the muscles of the pelvic floor and the muscles surrounding the spine. The flowing, precise movement sequences of the Pilates Flow classes lead to a demanding and very efficient training.

What does Pilates do?

If you train your body and mind with the Pilates method, you primarily target the deep (=intrinsic) muscles. The external (=extrinsic muscles) have a tendency to compress the body. With the conscious activation of the intrinsic muscles, this happens less. It is responsible for straightening the spine and stabilizing the joints. If you let the deep and external muscles work in a differentiated and harmonious way, you will feel how, with regular training, you will gradually become more upright, your posture will improve, a certain ease of movement will arise and you will gain more flexibility. With Pilates training you achieve a balanced ratio of strength and flexibility. For example, you can counteract back pain and tension in various muscle groups.
